Shalom Aleichem Chevra, buckle up because this one is wild! What really happened to Bilam when the Jews came to finish the job — and what does it have to do with the lost Temple vessels and Titus? In this shiur we're diving deep into Parshat Matos, specifically Numbers 31, and picking up the thread from Numbers 25 where 24,000 Jews died in the plague of immorality. We look at how the Midianites used seduction as a weapon against the Jewish people, and how that seduction wasn't just a moral failing — it was a calculated spiritual attack. The story of Bilam's death is something else entirely. The Zohar brings down that when the Jews came for him, Bilam used black magic to fly through the air, and Pinchas flew after him — sword to sword. We unpack exactly what that looks like according to the sources. We also take a serious look at the broader principle here: the seven Noahide laws aren't the full picture of what the nations of the world are responsible for. Anything that normal human logic dictates as right — charity, protecting the vulnerable, marital fidelity — applies to every human being. The Midianites weren't just violating a Jewish standard. They were violating basic human decency, and that's a huge part of why the punishment came down the way it did. From there we get into the actual war narrative in Matos and start tracking the Rashis that open up the real depth of what's going on. The Chevra are going to want to stay with this one because we're setting up something much bigger about what this war represents — and yes, we are eventually getting to Titus and the Temple vessels.
