Shabbat Shalom Chevra! Who is like God? No one and no thing, that’s for sure. God’s love for us is incredible. Just hear me out for a second. God created the world and all of us and gave us the torah to tell us how to do it. But it get’s better… God created us as imperfect beings in order that we can perfect ourselves thereby making us partners in the whole story of creation. And that’s not all… God, in his infinite wisdom, knew that creating us humans as imperfect means there would be some mistakes made along the way. Okay, so what? God loves us so much that in the torah he created for us with all the rules and regulations governing reality, ways to right our wrongs and learn from our mistakes. The Holy Sages teach us that initially, God was all about structure and judgement. At that point, if we were to make mistakes we would have been punished immediately, mostly some form of ceasing to exist. After thinking the matter over and realizing it would be better for us to work on our mistakes, God became kind, caring, and giving and in so doing gave us second chances and opportunities to make teshiva and return to Him out of LOVE. This is the ULTIMATE form of Love.
