What if the key to unlocking the deepest levels of Torah — the Torah of Mashiach — is fabulous, limitless wealth?
In this shiur we dive deep into a Likutey Moharan that connects extraordinary wealth with the ability to reach the highest levels of Torah meditation and consciousness. We explore what it actually means to be "fabulously wealthy but not lacking" — because the Rebbe makes it clear there's a difference between being rich and being rich without a sense of lack. That distinction turns out to be everything when it comes to unlocking what's called the Torah of Atika, the Torah that will be revealed when Mashiach comes.
We trace this idea through some of the most powerful figures in all of Torah — Yosef HaTzaddik, who had literally all the wealth of the world under his management during the famine, Moshe Rabbeinu, and the tribe of Yissachar, whose fabulous wealth (supported by the partnership with Zevulun) gave them the mental space and material freedom to become the Yodei Binah — the great judges and calendar calculators who understood the movements of the planets and the deep secrets of the new moon. Their wealth wasn't a distraction from Torah; it was the fuel for their deepest contemplation.
We also wrestle with the fascinating directionality of this Torah — does the wealth come first and unlock the higher consciousness, or does Torah itself, which is called "wealth," start the whole cycle moving upward? The Rebbe seems to take us both ways, and we spend real time tracing those movements — up, down, sideways, circular — the way every Torah of Reb Nachman moves you through conceptual space. Along the way we bring in the money pouch from the story of the Lost Princess, Rav Nosson Finkel of the Mir, the mission of building Hashem's Malchus in the world, and Isaiah 60's vision of the wealth of nations streaming back to Jerusalem.
