The Building of the 3rd Temple

In this shiur we dive deep into Isaiah Chapter 60, the haftarah that so many of us read last Shabbat but maybe didn't fully sit with. We unpack three layers of what that opening light actually refers to: the Or HaGanuz, the hidden primordial light of creation; the Beit HaMikdash, the Third Temple itself; and the light of Mashiach. All three are woven together in this single prophecy, and once you see it, you can't unsee it. We walk through the early verses of the chapter together and look at what the Malbim, the Alshich, and the Ibn Ezra each bring out about the contrast between the darkness covering the nations and the radiance that rests on those who stayed loyal to Torah and mitzvot. We talk about what it means that nations will walk by your light, how the Jewish people become the teachers of humanity in the messianic era, and what the seven Noahide mitzvot actually are and why they matter for all of humanity right now. Then we get into the breathtaking imagery of the ingathering of the exiles, the heads of state streaming to Jerusalem, the affluence of the west being redirected toward the glory of the Beit HaMikdash, and what it looks like when the nations bring their greatest gifts to Yerushalayim. From Sheba's gold to the rams of Nevayot, we see how every nation contributes something unique to the rebuilding. The Malbim's contrast between all the wars waged against Yerushalayim throughout history and the coming era when nations arrive with open hearts and no weapons — that one really stopped us in our tracks.
