Shalom Aleichem Chevra, welcome back to the leadership series! What does Avraham Avinu pitching his wife's tent have to do with becoming the kind of leader people actually open up to? In this shiur — part two of our leadership series — we dive into Principle Number Two: taking care of people's physical needs before anything else. We look at a fascinating pasuk in Bereishit (Genesis 12) where the Torah writes 'ohalah' with a hey — her tent — instead of 'ohalo,' his tent. Rashi picks up on this and points out that Avraham pitched Sarah's tent first, before his own. Rav Aharon David of the Mir used this pasuk to teach something deeply practical about being mashpia and guiding others: if someone's basic physical needs aren't met, there is no kli — no vessel — for the or to enter. We talk through what this looks like in real life. Whether you're leading a Foundations trip, an EFG year-in-Israel program, or just sitting with someone who just landed after 30 hours of travel — the first move isn't to open with a vort. It's to shle the bags. Get the water. Make sure the air conditioning works. Make sure people have eaten. Rabbi Willig quoted a beautiful piece from Rabbi Klatzko about the three levels of relationship a leader builds: first you're a friend, then a rebi, then like a father. And you cannot skip steps. You can't open as a father if you never helped pitch the tent. We also wrestle with a really important and honest question the Chevra raised: is all of this manipulation? Are we just giving out sushi so people will stay for the lecture? The answer we land on is this — if you would still give someone the meal even knowing they'd walk out in two minutes and you'd never see them again, that's how you know it's real. Avraham's tent was open to everyone, including people who had no intention of benching. He fed them because he genuinely loved people. That's the model. Principle Two is simple but not easy: her tent first, then mine. If this resonated with you, share it with someone who's leading others — and subscribe so you don't miss the rest of the series! ---------------------------------------------------------- 🔹Join Rabbi Moshe Chaim's Exclusive Content Sign up here 👉 https://www.youtube.com/@ChevraRavMosheChaim/join 🔹Join Rabbi Moshe Chaim's Private Chizzuk Group Sign up here 👉 https://subscribepage.io/join-the-chevra 🔹Visit the Website 👉 https://www.ravmoshechaim.com/ 🔹Newsletter 👉 https://ravmoshechaimchevra.substack.com/ 🔹Discover Beautiful Sacred Art 👉 https://bit.ly/chevra-art 🔹Join us in Yeshiva - in Jerusalem!
