Hey friends! What's up Chevra?! What does it mean to lose the princess — and what does it take to actually go find her? In this episode we dive deeper into Rebbe Nachman's story of the Lost Princess, and we're zeroing in on one of the most relatable ideas in the whole thing: the concept of 'episug.' That Yiddish word captures something painful and real — living your spiritual life in the past tense. Not davening, but wanting to have davened. Not doing the thing, just wanting to have done it. We talk about how that creeping feeling of epis is exactly what the loss of the princess looks like in real life, and how so many of us can remember a moment where something of that sweetness, that aliveness in our relationship with Hashem, just quietly went missing. We also get into why the princess disappears at night — what lila, darkness, and the forces of the world have to do with the tzimtzum, with concealment, and with free will. The Chevra knows that in the Torah's worldview we don't start with the day and end in darkness. We start in the night and move toward the light. That's our whole mission. David Hamelech wakes up in the middle of the night and brings the dawn — and that's the energy we have to carry. Then somebody new walks into the story: the Mishneh, the second in command. He stands up — and that detail matters. He doesn't stand up because he wants the reward or the glory. He stands up because the king is in pain, and the princess has to be found. We talk about how the Mishneh represents the tzaddik — the one standing on the portico above the hedge maze, guiding us not just because he can see the path, but because he walked it himself. That's what Rosh Hashana is really about: connecting our souls to the tzaddik so we can be guided home. The Mishneh asks for three things before he sets out: a helper, a horse, and money. And we end with that incredible teaching that the world says stories put children to sleep — but the tzaddik says stories wake them up. The Chevra has been walking around all week with the Lost Princess in mind, and that's exactly the point. Think good and it will be good. We're on our way.
